Jon Arterton (conductor of St. Petersburg’s One City Chorus) will lead a one-day workshop which will teach participants to become better singers in a safe, fun and supportive atmosphere. He’ll explain how it is that we humans are able to make such miraculous sounds, and he’ll talk about how we might make our sounds even more glorious. Experienced and inexperienced singers alike will benefit. There will be group singing, talk about the “4 R’s” (relaxation, respiration, resonance and registers), some sharing of stories and lots of laughter.
JON ARTERTON began his musical journey as a choirboy at Washington DC’s National Cathedral. He holds a Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting from The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and was twice a Vocal Fellow at the Boston Symphony’s Tanglewood Music Festival. He also holds an MFA in Acting from Smith College, and has performed in hundreds of plays and musicals, including The Utter Glory of Morrissey Hall on Broadway. He was the founder and musical arranger of The Flirtations, an a cappella singing group which performed in venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, and which was seen in the film Philadelphia. In 2002 he founded the classically-oriented Outer Cape Chorale in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Then in October 2016 he founded St. Pete’s new 120-voice community chorus specializing in songs of social justice, civil rights and equality, The One City Chorus. www.OneCityChorus.org.
