April 20, 2018 – Susan G. Komen® Florida Suncoast announced today that they are closing their local office and transitioning support for the region to Komen’s national mission and fundraising programs effective later this summer. This evolution in Komen’s grassroots presence is part of the national organization’s drive to strengthen its entire organization by streamlining operations for increased efficiency and focusing its mission programs for maximum impact on its Bold Goal of reducing breast cancer deaths in the U.S. by 50% by 2026.
Komen’s commitment to the people of the Tampa/St. Petersburg region remains strong. People needing support may access treatment assistance, clinical trial navigation, education and other patient support programs through Komen’s national Help Line at 1-877-GO-KOMEN or through komen.org.
Funds raised locally by Komen Florida Suncoast, including those from the recent Race for the Cure and Rally for the Cure fundraising events, will continue to go to support breast cancer research and breast health programs through the Susan G. Komen® Treatment Assistance Fund, as had been previously intended.
“On behalf of the local team at Komen Florida Suncoast, we would like to thank the many people who have supported us throughout the years,” said Gina Kravitz, Executive Director. “We are extremely proud of the work we have been able to do together to provide breast health education and access to screening and treatment programs to uninsured and underinsured women and men in our area. While we are closing our local office, we strongly encourage our supporters to continue to support Komen and its effort to save lives from breast cancer.”
There are many ways to continue to stay engaged with Komen and to make a difference on breast cancer, whether by participating in a Komen event or raising funds in a way that is meaningful to you through the organization’s Do It Yourself fundraising platform.
