Tampa, Fla. – The award-winning dancers of Next Generation Ballet (NGB) will join Patel Conservatory ballet dancers to perform the timeless classic ballet Cinderella, on May 5-6 in the Straz Center for the Performing Art’s Ferguson Hall.
Under the direction of NGB Artistic Director and Patel Conservatory Dance Chair Philip Neal, jubilant music by Sergei Prokofiev sweeps this magical ballet along at a brisk, joyous pace, as the renowned Cinderella characters demonstrate the beloved tale through expressive dance. Audiences will delight in Cinderella’s race-to-midnight, as her fate hangs in the balance by one very powerful glass slipper.
Cinderella was composed in the 1940s, with the premiere being in 1945 at the Bolshoi Theatre. The NGB version was choreographed by former NGB Artistic Director Peter Stark, who focused on the students’ unique talents and on bringing the story into focus. The large-scale revival of this production includes nearly all of the Patel Conservatory ballet students and the 43 NGB trainees. Beautiful sets and costumes complete this magical production.
Cinderella will be presented in Ferguson Hall May 5-6. Performances are Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Regularly priced tickets start at $20 and may be purchased by calling 813.229.STAR (7827) or 800.955.1045 outside Tampa Bay, in person at the Straz Center Ticket Office or online at www.strazcenter.org.
