WHO: Gotta Tap
WHAT: The Rhythm and Sole Tap Ensemble Concert 2018
WHEN: Friday, April 27, 8 p.m.
WHERE: University Area Community Center, 14013 N. 22nd St., Tampa, FL 33613
DETAILS: Gotta Tap dancers, comprised of tap dancers from throughout the Tampa Bay Area, will perform to bring awareness to the many benefits of dance, and to raise money for charitable causes.
Director Ashlyn Bolton, Creative Loafing’s 2017 Best of the Bay “Best Local Dancer,” has created a lively show that demonstrates the diversity of tap dance from its origins in gumboot to rhythm tap dance in the present. Dancers will perform the unique piece, “Rhythm in Motion,” which merges painting and tap dancing.
Having trained at the Patel Conservatory and in programs such as the Radio City Rockettes Summer Intensive, Tap Kids, and The Intensive, Bolton has performed in New York City numerous times in several venues and in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. She took over direction of Gotta Tap last year.
Tickets are $12 at the door. More information is available by contacting Bolton at tampabaytaps@gmail.com.
Proceeds from the Rhythm and Sole Tap Ensemble Concert will go toward tap dance education and to the University Area Community Development Corporation’s Prodigy Cultural Arts program. Prodigy is an early prevention community program designed to improve the life chances of at-risk students grades one through 12th by providing a safe arena where they learn communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
