April 19th, 2018 | St. Petersburg, FL – The St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the destination for its third annual benchmarking trip. The Chamber will be taking 50 community stakeholders to Kansas City, MO on October 15th– 17th, 2018.
The Chamber’s benchmarking trip is designed to discover successful strategies that can help St. Petersburg continually grow smarter.
“The annual Thinking Outside the ‘Burg trip enables us to gain perspectives from other communities that have addressed issues our chamber has either experienced or identified as opportunities,” said Jeff Baker, Duke Energy’s government and community relations manager and co-chair of the trip. “The real value comes from having nearly 50 St. Petersburg-centric leaders engaged and traveling together to collectively make our city an even greater community in which to live, work and play.”
Why did they Chamber pick Kansas City? Nathan Stonecipher, owner of Green Bench Brewing and trip co-chair explains, “We’re excited to travel to Kansas City this year for many reasons. While different in many ways from St. Petersburg, KC has been on the move and in transition for years. Made up of many unique/diverse neighborhoods and districts (and positioned on the border of two states), their downtown core has quadrupled in population over the last 10 years. Ranked #3 in the U.S. for affordability, with a strong focus on supporting entrepreneurship, and a city already utilizing bus rapid transit and a street car system, we hope to learn and share in many ways.”
