Spring Hill, Florida (March 12, 2018) – Oak Hill Hospital has recently recognized two nurses for excellence in nursing. The Excellence in Nursing awards were recently given at Oak Hill Hospital’s Awards of Distinction celebration. The Excellence in Nursing awards were established by HCA to honor outstanding nurses who demonstrate excellence in professional mentoring and in compassionate care. The awards honor exceptional individuals whose work and lives reflect the patient-centered and humanitarian values upon which HCA was founded.
The Excellence in Nursing Award for Compassionate Care was presented to Shawn Kernz, an intensive care registered nurse with Oak Hill Hospital since 2013. Mr. Kernz has been noted for always willing to help, demonstrating complete and total professionalism in all aspects of his position and in giving his patients the utmost care showing compassion and always ensuring their dignity. “Shawn offers to help whenever possible. He helps us with his knowledge as an open-heart nurse. He is very caring with his patients and demonstrates total professionalism,” stated one of the associates who nominated him. “He is an asset to the Oak Hill Hospital team,” they added.
The Excellence in Nursing Professional Mentor award was received by Kristin Baker, an emergency room charge RN with Oak Hill Hospital since 2010. She is recognized for continually stepping up to mentor and engage all staff both experienced and new. “Kristin is known for caring for patients’ emotional needs as well as medical,” said one nomination. “It is a privilege to work alongside a nurse of her caliber,” they added.
