Sarasota, Florida – April 18, 2018 – Coastal Behavioral Healthcare (CBH) – a Joint Commission accredited nonprofit providing an integrated system of mental health, substance abuse and criminal justice services – is building off its experience as the regional service provider for the Florida Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) program for individuals with severe and chronic mental illnesses and launching its Saving the Next Generation campaign. Its mission is to address inadequate state funding and provide innovative treatment, prevention and outreach programs for more than 12,500 Sarasota County children, adults and families in need.
“This campaign ushers in an exciting new initiative to enable Coastal Behavioral Healthcare to focus on offering our proven, effective resources and core services here in our own backyard,” said Jack Minge, CEO of CBH. “We believe it is not acceptable for the people in need throughout Sarasota County to continue to be underserved, and Coastal is here to help with compassion, respect and dignity.”
Each year, CBH provides treatment to more than 7,000 children, adolescents, adults, seniors and families throughout Sarasota County. Inspired by the success of its many programs and FACT, CBH determined the best way to bring an immediate impact to our community was to set its future focus on Sarasota County – and its residential facility for youth in Punta Gorda – by securing funding and resources for a host of new services, as well as its numerous already-established prevention and treatment programs, which include:
CBH Programs for Children
• The Compass Program
• Journey’s Program
• Compeer Sarasota
• CASB: Community & School Based Prevention & Education Program
• CTCM: Children’s Targeted Case Management
• Outpatient Psychiatry
• Outpatient and In-home Therapy
CBH Programs for Adults
• Behavioral Health Access Center
• Compeer
• The Kreisman Center Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU)
• Mental Health Court
• Veterans Court
• Pregnant Women & Women with Dependent Children Services
• Outpatient Psychiatry
• Outpatient and In-home Therapy
The initial funding push for the Saving the Next Generation campaign will take place during the 2018 Giving Challenge on May 1 and May 2, and will continue with ongoing donor relations through community engagement programs and leveraging partnerships with other local education, healthcare and support service providers, such as Sarasota County schools and various community foundations.
The multidisciplinary FACT teams offer a mobile, integrated, around-the-clock system of care with a full array of treatment, support and rehabilitation services. CBH served as the area provider of FACT for the past 17 years under the Central Florida Behavioral Health Network using funding allocations established in 2000. In the last two years, the FACT team provided 455 people in need with 24/7 comprehensive care spread over four regional areas: Charlotte/DeSoto, Sarasota, North Lee and South Lee. The program brought measurable results, with 95 percent of those currently served having secured stable housing, and 75 percent having maintained or shown improvement in their daily living by meeting a range of personal benchmarks, including reduced hospitalization, increased days in the community, minimized or diverted incarcerations, and lessening the role of families in providing care.
