The first in a three-part series discussing the “missing middle” focusing on accessory dwelling units.
Join us for the first installment of the Missing Middle series. Missing Middle Housing is not a new type of building. It is a range of building types existing in cities and towns across the country and were a fundamental building block in pre-1940s neighborhoods. They are most likely present on some of your favorite city blocks—you may even have them in your own neighborhood (from missingmiddlehousing.com).
A major theme will be accessory dwelling units, which are one of the oldest and most common ways of wealth building-and now outlawed almost everywhere. This type of housing is seeing a revival as the cost of housing continues to rise beyond what current wages can accommodate.
