Remember the old days when we would never consider combining a soft apricot
color with rose red and burnt orange tones? Times have changed and we’ve come a long way in choosing color combinations that are new, a bit more edgy, and ones that we now think look wonderful together.
That’s the case for this month’s pillow. The hand painted ethnic panel applied across
the mid-section of the pillow is from a vintage antique shop. It reminded me so much of the folk art period that I had to name it Folk Art Fantastic! Notice how the colors work beautifully together. Add in hand applied beading in rose and terra cotta tones, and it reaches another level of dimension.
The back panel of the pillow showcases another way of using the rose and apricot tones together. Hand applied white and rose tones of rick-rack and beading create a uniquely different “second” pillow design for use in your chosen room. The rick-rack and beading application in both white and rose colors are pattern matched in their overlays.
I love this room from House Beautiful. It’s a perfect space for Folk Art Fantastic! as the room itself is made from tones of apricot and rose with an added accent of white. The pattern in the chair fabric creates a soft backdrop for the drama of Folk Art Fantastic! It’s time to forget our old rules of patterns and colors…it’s time to be creative. Make your room reflect you and your design talents!!!
Side one is beginning to take form. It will have a different color block pattern and color/design style from the back.
The design layout for each side uses many of the same fabrics and trimmings…and each side also has a few surprises.
We have added trimmings…but with discretion.
One of the fabrics used was chosen as the trim along with a ribbon trim layer on the top… but just on three locations…this offers distinction to the design.
Next Month: Side two takes shape.
