BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – Neal Communities, southwest Florida’s premier, private homebuilder, recently gifted $500 for Taste of Love, a fundraising event for Special Equestrians, Inc., a nonprofit that provides therapeutic horseback riding and equine-assisted activities to children and adults with disabilities.
The team in Neal Communities’ south region, which encompasses Lee and Collier Counties, donated the money to help support the nonprofit’s day-to-day expenses of its therapeutic riding program, which has expanded this year to serve more than 90 individuals each week.
Held on Sunday, March 11, attendees enjoyed a delicious culinary and wine experience from 14 culinary participants and a silent auction. Tony Scalora, a construction manager at the homebuilder’s Coastal Key community, and his wife attended the event on behalf of Neal Communities. The couple is extremely active with the nonprofit’s efforts.
“On behalf of Special Equestrians and the children and adults with disabilities in southwest Florida who benefit from our therapeutic riding program, we thank Neal Communities for their sponsorship of Taste of Love,” said Jan Fifer, executive director of Special Equestrians. “Taste of Love was an amazing success because of the generosity of Neal Communities and many other individuals and businesses.”
This year, over 500 patrons raised more than $200,000 in support of Special Equestrians.
A United Way Partner Agency, the volunteer-run and self-administrative organization was established in 1987. The nonprofit serves children and adults from Lee, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades Counties. Its program supports 12 horses and services more than 90 participants each week. Participants range in age from four years to over 75 years. Special Equestrians’ therapeutic riding program helps with balance, coordination, trunk strength, flexibility, concentration, sensory awareness, social skills and even communication.
Located at 5121 Staley Road in Fort Myers, the 14.5-acre farm is home to a 12-stall barn, a riding arena, a hay and equipment barn, caretaker’s quarters and office space. The organization serves people referred to Special Equestrians by doctors, therapists and teachers.
