Tampa, Fla. (April 5, 2018) – The deadline for local nonprofits to register for Give Day Tampa Bay is fast approaching: April 17. The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, host of the 24-hour, online charitable giving challenge on May 1, encourages local nonprofits to register long before the April 17 deadline for the best opportunity for a successful Give Day campaign.
Once registered, a nonprofit should start developing its fundraising strategy, securing matching funds and developing partnerships for its campaign. Prizes, which boost nonprofits’ fundraising efforts, will be awarded to nonprofit organizations that engage the donor base and raise funds in creative ways.
“Give Day Tampa Bay is an opportunity for nonprofits to leverage the collective marketing power behind the challenge in order to engage their donors, attract new ones, and increase awareness about their missions,” said Marlene Spalten, President and CEO of the Community Foundation. “Many nonprofits like Guardian ad Litem Foundation and Beat NB have shared success stories about how their Give Day campaigns have positively impacted the organizations.”
All donations are tax-deductible and will remain in the Tampa Bay area. Nonprofits from Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties have registered to participate in Give Day this year. All of the money donated through Give Day – less a small credit card processing fee – will be given to the nonprofit for which it is intended. The Community Foundation does not keep any money donated through Give Day.
Local nonprofits can solicit donations prior to May 1. From April 17-30, online donations made to an organization’s page will count toward the leaderboard and the overall event totals. The first 50 nonprofits that secure and meet a matching donation of at least $500 on Give Day will be eligible for one of 30 prizes of $1,000. Winners will be selected at random, and the matches must be set up in the GiveDay.org platform. Only gifts made through the platform on May 1 will count toward matching prizes.
Matching funds exponentially increase the amount of money raised by a nonprofit during Give Day. For example, a nonprofit that raises $500 and secures a $500 matching donation has already doubled the money it has raised. Couple it with one of the $1,000 matching prizes, and a nonprofit has quadrupled its fundraising efforts.
