OSPREY, FL (April 1st, 2018)- Sarasota Crew raced at the second regatta of the American Youth Cup series at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, South Clemson this past weekend. Sarasota Crew’s Varsity and Novice athletes compiled 63 entries in 26 events. Sarasota Crew athletes came home with 28 first place finishes, 12 second place finishes, and 9 third place finishes.
“This weekend was a great racing opportunity for our student-athletes. We were able to line up against teams we only get to see at our regional championships,” quipped Head Coach Casey Galvanek. “The region is becoming stronger every year and that improvement was seen here at the American Youth Cup II.”
Races were 2,000 meters and included the eighteen (18) Youth National Championship boat classes, ten (10) SNC Saratoga Jr National Championship boat classes, and a selection of supporting development boat classes. Each YNC and SNC boat class earns points based on the finishing order. The highest placing boat from a team is awarded points. At the end of each American Youth Cup regatta the team with the most points will be declared winner of that American Youth Cup regatta and will receive the leading team cup. After the third American Youth Cup regatta the team with the most points overall from all boat classes is declared overall winner of the American Youth Cup.
