“Hospice”, “terminal”, “end-stage”, “no more options”…..these are the words that no parent wants to hear when it comes to their child. Yet it is the tragic reality that children in the Tampa Bay area die from life threatening diseases and illnesses each day.
Little Light of Mine was founded by local photographer Sheri Kendrick to provide these families with professional photographs at no cost. “It is heartbreaking to see a family come to accept the impending loss of their child. It is that which lead to my calling to help provide these families with photographs to remember their child,” said Kendrick.
LLOM receives referrals from community partners and heath care providers and schedules sessions with families, either in the LLOM studio, family homes or hospitals. Where the condition of the child is critical, LLOM provides on-call photography services.
LLOM is funded exclusively through donations and will soon launch an Initial Charitable Offering (“ICO”) capital campaign to help their efforts with support from the corporate community. Board President Sybil Faylo states “Sadly there is a profound need for what we do and we are determined to help these families.” Recently, LLOM issued a “$15 a month” call for grass roots supporters where donors can make a recurring donation on their website http://llom.org/donate/. “We are making a difference, but need capital to sustain and expand our efforts; sadly the demand is there,” said Kendrick.
