Spring Hill, Florida (March 22, 2018) – Oak Hill Hospital has earned three 2017 Unit of Distinction (UOD) Awards in an annual program that recognizes and rewards exemplary nursing units at HCA Healthcare affiliate facilities.
The “Unit of Distinction” designation is achieved through measurable, exemplary performance in the strategic areas of Advocacy and Leadership, Consistency in Nursing Practice and Operations, and Leveraging Scale to Drive Performance. During 2017, 820 HCA Nursing units participated in the program. Using 23 different criteria, units were scored to determine which would receive the 2017 Unit of Distinction honor, which earns them a spot in the Top 5% of all HCA Medical-Surgical and Critical Care hospital units. In addition to the UOD recipients, 35 additional units achieved scores ranking them within the Top 10% of all HCA Med-Surg and Critical Care units, earning each an “Honorable Mention” designation.
An important component of the program is the company’s sponsorship of nurses to obtain national certification through programs accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties. This year, more than 1,100 HCA-affiliated nurses expanded their professional knowledge and advanced their individual and professional skills to earn certification.
“The Unit of Distinction Award recognizes and celebrates excellence in nursing and acknowledges that it takes a high-performing team of nurses demonstrating a high level of commitment to achieve results like these,” said Jane D. Englebright, PhD, RN, CENP, FAAN, HCA Chief Nurse Executive and Senior Vice President.
- Top 5%, Medical-Surgical: Ortho/Spine Unit led by director Bob Linares and manager Kathrine Roseus
- Top 10% Medical-Surgical: Telemetry Unit led by director Debbie Welshans and manager Shannon Linares
- Top 10% Critical Care: Intermediate Care Unit led by director Carlos Cardona and manager Joslyn Figueroa
“This recognition is a direct reflection of the commitment our team has made to providing excellence in healthcare to our community,” said Leanne Salazar, Chief Nursing Officer. “They are committed to professional development and certification, and I’m honored to work with a team that is passionate about their profession and compassionate for the patients we serve.”
With more than 1,800 care locations, HCA-affiliated nurses have abundant opportunity to choose work across a wide spectrum of clinical and non-clinical settings. Launched in 2014, the Unit of Distinction Awards are an essential component of HCA’s multi-year nursing strategic plan. HCA is dedicated to providing support to all nurses across the company from the bedside to the boardroom through professional development, investments in technology and a commitment to helping nurses deliver excellent care to patients.
