Tampa, Fla. (February 28, 2018) – Avant Garde Academy Westchase in Tampa, Florida, a highly anticipated STEAM-focused charter school, is now fully completed and accepting applications for the 2018-2019 academic school year.
The nearly $20 million new-build facility, which opened as a K-6 for the 2017-2018 school year, will be adding a grade level and offer K-7 next year.
Avant Garde Academy Westchase, located at 13901 Sheldon Rd., is not only state-of-the-art, but includes offerings which are often scarce among charter school facilities, among them, a full-size gymnasium.
“Absolutely everything is now up and running as we finalized construction,” says Dr. Dana Smith, the school’s principal. “We encountered some unexpected construction delays as we prepared for the current academic year, but we opened as a small K-6, and the year has so far been extremely successful and encouraging.”
Beyond its academic STEAM (Science, Technology, Education, Arts, and Mathematics) focus, Westchase offers active robotics during the school day, Lego classes for all grade levels, engineering projects, performing arts, (including an art club, band, chorus, and guitar) and a full sports program offering volleyball, soccer, track and basketball.
“We have received several hundred applications from interested parents already,” adds Dr. Smith. “We have had such a positive first year, and are very much looking forward to sharing our expanded offerings for the next academic year.”
Avant Garde Academy Westchase participates in the national school lunch program and even offers bus transportation service to the school.
