SARASOTA, Fla. — F. Steven Herb, a business attorney and arbitrator with the full-service law firm Kirk Pinkerton, PA, was recently selected as the new vice chairman of the board for Sarasota Military Academy, a public charter school with high school and middle school campuses and an authorized International Baccalaureate World School.
Since 2010, Herb has assisted on the board in various positions. In his new role, he will serve alongside the nonprofit’s other board members, all unpaid volunteers, and help steer and govern the nonprofit. Herb joined the board after being introduced to the school by its then chairman, Howard G. Crowell, who was a founding director.
“I feel privileged to serve with these community leaders, and in some way helping an organization that instills the principles of integrity, honor, respect and patriotism,” said Herb. “The school’s guiding principles align with my beliefs of what is needed in our world, especially our youth and tomorrow’s leaders. The cadets continually make us proud and have proven the validity of instilling these values along with a challenging academic education.”
Herb’s primary areas of practice are corporate, business and real estate law, including preparation of contracts, transactions, collections, products and warranty liability and manufacturer and dealer relationships. He has also acted as the national legal counsel for more than a dozen boat manufacturers for more than 25 years. He represents businesses, individuals, manufacturers and retailers in many other industries as well.
Herb is qualified to serve as an arbitrator under the Florida requirements. He also has an active real estate practice and is an authorized agent for issuance of title insurance in commercial and residential transactions.
From 1975-78, Herb served as a United States Air Force as a Judge Advocate General and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business pre-law and economics from Bowling Green University and earned his law degree from the University of Cincinnati. He is a member of The Maritime Law Association, The Florida Bar and The Sarasota Bar Association.
Combining extraordinary academics with the highest military principles of camaraderie, focus, leadership, integrity, compassion, poise, honor and respect, the Sarasota Military Academy’s mission is to graduate young men and women who will confidently define their personal and unique goals for success in a multicultural and globalized world.
