In celebration of Black History Month, Perenich, Caulfield, Avril & Noyes, P.A. is proud to announce its first annual C. Bette Wimbish Memorial Art Scholarship. This scholarship honors the life and legacy of C. Bette Wimbish, the first black female attorney in Pinellas County and a cherished political leader and activist in St. Petersburg. To be considered for the scholarship, students at Gibbs High School and the Pinellas County Center for the Arts were asked to create a piece of artwork, in any medium, inspired by Black History Month, with extra consideration given to pieces that incorporate St. Petersburg or C. Bette Wimbish.
The project was spearheaded by associate attorneys Jacqlyn Bryant and Dane Heptner. As a St. Petersburg native, Jacqlyn Bryant finds it “extremely rewarding to work for a firm that not only celebrates Black History Month, but also honors the important accomplishments and legacy of Attorney Wimbish and her impact on our local legal community.” Dane Heptner adds that it was an enriching experience to see “how creative and talented the local students are.”
Over 30 submissions were received, and the artwork is currently on display at the law office of Perenich, Caulfield, Avril & Noyes, located at 1875 N. Belcher Road in Clearwater. The pieces will be judged on creativity and their incorporation of the theme, and the winners will be announced on Wednesday, February 28th at 10:00 AM at the firm’s Clearwater office, followed by an awards ceremony at Gibbs High School at 850 34th St South in St. Petersburg at 12:30 PM. Local media and the community are invited to come see the artwork by these talented students.
