St. Petersburg, FL (February 25, 2018) – The local nonprofit Operation: Military Matters is teaming up with Texas Roadhouse in St. Petersburg, 10105 Bay Pines Boulevard, for a fundraiser on Monday, February 26, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ten percent of the sales that night will go to Operation: Military Matters to help send care packages to the military overseas.
During the fundraiser at approximately 5 p.m. veterans from VFW post 9272 of Seminole will present Graci Tubbs and Operation: Military Matters with a $500 check.
Operation: Military Matters is a 501 (c) (3) and was started in November 2015, as part of a project for a gifted class by 9-year-old and fourth grader Graci Tubbs (now 12 and in 6th grade) and her classmate. After hearing and seeing veterans speak at a school Veterans Day assembly, Graci felt the need to support our military and let the men and women sacrificing their lives for us, know people back home cared about them.
Tubbs collects donations from the community to put in the care packages. They include: handwritten cards, toiletry items, shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, snacks, hard candy, wipes, games, instant coffee, gummy bears, romen noodles, beef jerky, tuna or salmon packs, tea gallon zip lock bags, hand lotion, trail mix, socks, dvds, etc. There are donation sites throughout Pinellas County.
Since 2015, the nonprofit has sent more than 300 care packages. Each package costs $17.35 to send.
