In this exhibition of selected works from the Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College’s permanent collection, we explore the concept of what it means to call something an American work of art. This is the first exhibition to meld the newest permanent collection works centered around the American figure with works selected from the museum’s existing permanent collection. Photo available.
Renoir: Les Etudes

This exhibition showcases Renoir’s work as a draftsman and his use of the art of printmaking, a medium he discovered in the 1890s. Photo available.
Richard Segalman: Monotypes

The 24 works in this show focus on Segalman’s black-and-white monotype process.
Holly Scoggins: Fearful Symmetry
Through April 29
A collection of derivative paintings created by superimposing vintage photographs into images of current events and destinations. Photo available.
Painting A Nation: Hudson River School Landscapes
March 10-May 20
A collection of superb examples of Hudson River School paintings, the first native school of painting in the United States. These paintings are from the Higdon Collection and was organized by the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, South Carolina.
The Coast of Genoa by Francis Cropsey
March 10-May 20
Jasper F. Cropsey is a second generation Hudson River School painter. This painting is on exhibit courtesy of the Smithsonian American Art Museum to accompany “Painting A Nation.”
Masters of Spain: Goya and Picasso
March 17-June 17
A rare showcase of work by two of the greatest Spanish painters of all time. This exhibition presents side-by-side the two artists who defined Spanish-made art for nearly 200 years.

Creative Youth
March 17- April 15
2018 marks the 37th year that members of the U.S. House of Representatives have recognized the creative spirit of American high school students with a national art competition. The Polk Museum of Art conducts the competition and mounts the exhibition for the 15th Congressional District including parts of Polk, Lake and Hillsborough counties.

About the Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College
The Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida, is a private, not-for-profit academic museum dedicated to promoting inspirational and engaging arts experiences for all. It is one of the Top 10 art museums in the State of Florida, an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and the only art museum accredited by the American Alliance of Museums serving the 561,000 residents of Polk County. Museum hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesdays – Saturdays; 1-5 p.m. Sundays (closed Sundays June 1 through Labor Day) and closed Mondays and major holidays. Admission is free for everyone year-round, thanks to the following organizations and individuals: MIDFLORIDA Credit Union; the Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Foundation; and the Share Foundation. The museum is fully accessible.
