Old McMicky’s Farm Announces Winner of ‘Teachers ROCK” 20k Teacher Appreciation Dream Wedding
Riverhills Elementary Magnet School 5th grade teacher and her finance and college football coach receive the wedding of a lifetime
Odessa, FL (February, 15 2018) – On January 15th, Old McMicky’s Farm (OMF) announced that the “Teachers ROCK” 20K Teacher Appreciation Dream Wedding Giveaway voting would be open until February 7th. Twelve couples told their stories, all vying to win the wedding of a lifetime. The general public, students and students’ families were encouraged to show their appreciation for all teachers by voting to select a teacher to receive a free Dream Wedding. “Teachers make such a huge difference in the lives of children and families in all of our communities, we thought a great way for Old McMicky’s Farm and the community to show our appreciation was to help a teacher start a family of their own with this $20,000 wedding gift”, said farm owner Ralph Zuckerman.
Today, OMF is pleased to announce that Kaylan Figueroa & Will Burnham will be receiving the FREE wedding of their dreams. Kaylan and Will are both from the Tampa Bay area and Kaylan is a 5th grade teacher at Riverhills Elementary Magnet School who confesses that the role of a teacher is not only to educate but to also provide emotional responsiveness. “I started in a school that threw me completely out of my comfort zone, at a high poverty, Title 1 school where 97% of the students qualify for free school lunch. My daily interactions with my students required every bit of my intellectual and emotional attention. These are kids that don’t only need a teacher, but a lot of times a role model, and someone that cares. We had to break down barriers they had built up before we could break open a textbook.’ Says Kaylan. She also loves the opportunity to be creative and encourage creativity with her students in the classroom. Will is a football coach at The University of Tennessee at Martin.
Old McMicky’s Farm is thrilled to help bring awareness to teachers throughout the Tampa Area by providing this deserving couple with the wedding of a lifetime. Many local and national organizations helped to to get the word out about the gift and to promote Teacher Appreciation, including the Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco County Public School Systems, County Education Foundations, Teachers Unions, Teachers Associations, PTAs and Private School Associations. There was no cost to any school, teacher or participating organization. And with their help, ‘Teacher ROCK’, reached a record number of over 1 million Tampa Bay area residents with the message of teacher appreciation and the finalists received over 85,000 votes. The finalists were all teachers in Pinellas, Pasco and Hillsborough counties and represent both public and private schools.
The wedding will be held on at the beautiful Barn at Crescent Lake at Old McMicky’s Farm on May 12th (During Teacher Appreciation Month).
The wedding will include everything a bride and groom dream of on their wedding day; a gorgeous lake front venue and vintage barn for reception, full-service wedding planning, officiant, food and beverage catering for 100 guests, professional photographer, professional DJ/MC, gourmet wedding cake, custom floral arrangements, wedding overnight stay at lakefront cabin, wedding rings for the bride and the groom, hair and make-up, use of a gorgeous wedding gown, grooms tuxedo, specialty linens and the pre-wedding rehearsal.
