BRADENTON, Fla. — The office of the Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller recently promoted Phaedra Carter to manager of historical resources.
An employee of the Clerk’s Office since 2005, Carter previously served as the supervisor of the Manatee Village Historical Park. She will train with the department’s chief historian, Cathy Slusser, to prepare for Slusser’s retirement in February 2020.
“One of the internal initiatives that I feel very strongly about is succession planning and the continuity of operations in order to have a smooth transition among our executive team,” said Angel Colonneso, the Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller. “Institutional knowledge is vital to sustaining our outstanding service to the community. We have many talented people working in our organization, and we want to ensure that we pass on their wisdom to the next generation of leaders.”
Carter will continue to manage the Manatee Village Historical Park and the Manatee County Historical Commission. In her new role, she will also spend the next two years learning about historic preservation and the other sites and organizations within the historical resources department.
“I am excited to work with Phaedra to help her learn about this department in order to continue the legacy that I, along with many other volunteers and staff, have worked so hard to build,” said Slusser. “I am confident that Phaedra will be an excellent chief historian. She already possesses many of the leadership skills that she will need and is passionate about preserving Manatee County’s history.”
