ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (February 13 ,2018) – In terms of career transitions, this one makes sense. Wes Tallyn, a biologist with 15 years of experience in environmental science and his wife Samantha, an accountant, have launched Gulfshore Pest Control. Samantha brings a decade of banking experience to manage this woman-owned business enterprise that opened in the middle of last year. Wes applies his environmental knowledge, his earth preservation skills and his love of the outdoors to residential and commercial clients in Pinellas County.
“We are chemical conscious and very conservative, only applying them where they need to be,” says Wes. “I would not put anything in your house that I wouldn’t put in my home. As an avid fisherman and biologist, I want to do my best to preserve what we have.”
His expertise as a biologist comes into play each day as he prepares for the influx of ants this Spring. He educates his clients about the various ant species that are impacting the area seasonally. As the weather warms and the flowers bloom, ants seek out the flowery nectar. When they run out of nectar, they come indoors. He cautions people not to spray repellants on ants as most over-the-counter products ironically cause the ants to stay. “Most ants can sense the repellant before they come up to the spray and then cannot be affected by it. They simply move elsewhere in the home. We offer several options for treatment that involve non-repellant spray or bait.”
During his first visit to a property, Wes will walk the perimeter of a house or commercial structure, to inspect vegetation that touches the building and any areas needing attention. He tailors his recommendations for pest control needs and provides a regular schedule of maintenance after addressing immediate pest challenges.
Wes was raised in St. Petersburg, received his degree in Environmental Science from Eckerd College and has seen everything that creeps and crawls in Florida. He worked in the pest control industry for three years before obtaining his certification to open Gulfshore Pest Control. With Samantha’s Masters degree in Accounting from St. Leo College, it made sense to become entrepreneurs and launch their own company to serve residents and businesses in Pinellas County.
