During the month of February the Special Olympics of Pasco will be the featured charitable giving organization at the Pasco County Tax Collector’s Office. The Special Olympics of Pasco is a sports and training program for people with intellectual disabilities. In Pasco year round training in 17 different sports are provided free of charge to participants. This will be the first time Special Olympics of Pasco will be spotlighted at the Pasco County Tax Collector’s Office. Raising funds, selling specialty tags and building awareness of the program are all goals of February’s charitable giving campaign.
“Through Special Olympics of Pasco we provide opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families and other Special Olympics athletes,” states Valerie Lundin, Director of Special Olympics of Pasco. “All funds raised will be used to give our athletes more opportunities to be the best they can be both on and off the sports field.”
Individuals who have automobile registration renewals coming due in February may choose to trade in their regular license plate for the Support Special Olympics Florida specialty tag. Customers may also purchase the tag for newly registered vehicles. The proceeds from the tag promotion will go directly to the Florida Developmental Disabilities Planning Council for Special Olympics. Additionally, customers may choose to make a cash donation to Special Olympics of Pasco when they renew their registration. The tax offices will accept cash or check donations on behalf of Special Olympics of Pasco.
“We are proud to team up with Special Olympics of Pasco to help shine a spotlight on this wonderful organization,” states Tax Collector Mike Fasano. “The athletes and the volunteers who work with them are some of the kindest, most positive people I have ever met. To see the joy on the face of an athlete as they cross the finish line in a race or some other event is indescribable. So many of the athletes have intellectual challenges that make life difficult already. Special Olympics of Pasco provides a respite from those difficulties as well as a place to be with others who also aspire to do their very best. I can’t say enough good things about Valerie Lundin and her team of Special Olympians. I encourage all customers to please consider making a donation to this wonderful organization. You will be helping to change a life.”
