TAMPA, Fla. [Jan. 30, 2018] — Walmart and Sam’s Club associates are helping “put the money where the miracles are” again this year with a combined fundraising effort raising $472,825 for Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg following the annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals campaign. The fundraising efforts are part of a broader national effort that raised more than $35 million in support of the 170 member hospitals across the country.
“So many of our associates have been touched by the great work done at Johns Hopkins All Children’s,” said Tina Gardner, store manager at the Palm Harbor Walmart Supercenter. “Year after year, our associates and our customers really step up to help make a significant impact in our local community. It’s really quite amazing and astounding to see how we’ve all come together to help our local CMN hospital provide lifesaving treatment to children.”
Over the past two years, Gardner’s store raised nearly $18,000 for the hospital during the campaign.
“We’re so grateful to Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, their customers and members for their long-time support” said Stephanie Hall, Director of Corporate Engagement at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. “Walmart and Sam’s Club’s generous gift will be used where needed most and to help us continue our research to cure and prevent childhood disease and train the next generation of pediatric experts.”
Walmart and Sam’s Club have supported Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for 30 years. Funds raised impact each of the 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which treat 10 million kids annually across North America. Hospitals utilize the funds based on what they need most — including lifesaving equipment and research, top therapy programs, charitable care and more.
Fundraising efforts have evolved over the last 30 years. While donations at the registers drive most of the fundraising at stores and clubs during the campaign, associates also get creative by hosting fundraising events, such as softball tournaments, popcorn sales, root beer floats, community events and face painting.
