DETAILS: DanceUSF Professor and Choreographer John Parks, and three DanceUSF dancers, will perform for Hillel Academy students and discuss with them the art of dance.
Parks trained at the Julliard School of Music and the Martha Graham School of modern dance and is a former dancer with the Alvin Ailey Dance Company in New York. Accredited by the Florida Council of Independent Schools and the Florida Kindergarten Council, Hillel is a member of the Jewish Community Day School Network and the National Association of Independent Schools.
The USF Dance program, housed in its own building on the USF Tampa Campus, is dedicated to training creative artists though classes and performances. At any one time, approximately 85 dance majors train in ballet, modern dance, world dance, choreography and ballet history, among other topics. DanceUSF also produces two dance concerts a year featuring work by their faculty and guest choreographers.
Performing arts education is highly valued at Hillel Academy, where students take music lessons by Patel Conservatory instructors, and students are treated to field trips and world-class performances at the Straz, and professional workshops from visiting artists. On January 31, students will experience opera at the Straz Center by attending the dress reheasal of The Barber of Seville.
