Golfing with heart takes on a new meaning at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, as two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin partners with The Concession Charities for the eighth Archie Griffin Celebrity Golf Classic, held March 5 and 6. More than 20 professional athletes are expected to attend, including current and former NFL players Joey Galloway, Leroy Hoard, Isaac Curtis, Will Allen, Michael Merriweather, Robert Smith, Louis Breeden and Keith Byars. Proceeds from the celebrity tournament will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County, empowering more than 5,000 youth to reach their potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
“There couldn’t be any better way to support these deserving young people and their families, while enjoying a round of golf on such a beautiful course,” explained Griffin, former senior advisor, Office of Advancement at The Ohio State University. “One of my biggest passions in life is giving back to strengthen our communities, and the men who join me on the course share this passion and commitment.”
The fundraiser tournament begins with a pairings party on Monday, March 5 at 6:00 pm, featuring dinner and drinks, live and silent auctions, and celebrity golf pairings for the tournament. The live auction will be led by Sarasota funny man Les McCurdy. On Tuesday, March 6, a shotgun start for the Celebrity Golf Classic will kick off at 9:00 am, with awards and lunch at 2:00 pm. Interviews and portions of the tournament will be covered by The Golf Channel’s Morning Drive.
To date, The Concession Charities has raised $542,465 through this event.
“In addition to being a great time, this celebrity golf tournament helps us to ensure that every child we serve has access to success and a plan for the future,” said Bill Sadlo, President/CEO at the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota County. “Funds from this event will help to support the launch of the McBean Teen Club to better serve our young people in the Newtown community, opening later this year.”
The Concession Golf Club is located at 7700 Lindrick Lane, just six miles east of I-75 on University Parkway.
