Tampa, Fla. – Hillel Academy students will get to experience opera on stage before the general public, at the January 31 Opera Tampa dress rehearsal of Gioachino Rossini’s hilarious comic opera The Barber of Seville at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.
Hillel Academy students are particularly excited, as they have already experienced opera up close in October, when members of Opera Tampa held a workshop with students at the school. During that workshop, students learned about the operatic art form, “opera etiquette” and various types of operatic voices. The presentation was designed to foster empathy by teaching students to understand emotions in music.
Additionally, selected Hillel Academy students will be interviewed for a video to be presented at the elegant Opera Tampa Gala to be held in April at the Straz Center.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our school,” notes Lisa Caine, Hillel Academy teacher and mother of a Hillel student active in the arts. “Having the artists come on site to do their outreach and now to be able to see the full opera at The Straz is just amazing. We are really looking forward to it.”
