TAMPA, Florida (Jan. 16, 2018)— American Momentum Bank recently partnered with End 68 Hours of Hunger to provide meals to children over the holiday break. The community bank collected peanut butter and jelly at their Hillsborough and Pinellas county branches, as well as their Florida headquarters in the Urban Centre in Tampa.
End 68 Hours of Hunger aims to confront the approximately 68 hours of hunger that some school children experience between the free lunch they receive in school Friday and the free breakfast they receive in school Monday. The not-for-profit organization provides children with bags of food, including three dinners, two lunches, two breakfasts and snacks for the weekend.
“This is such a wonderful organization and we were so happy to help them toward their goal of providing 40,000 meals to children in need this school year,” said Diane McKelvey, vice president, relationship manager, American Momentum Bank. “Thanks to the generosity of our clients and employees, we were able to provide them with a sizeable donation that will help address childhood hunger in our community.”
Peanut butter and jelly are the biggest need; however, the organization also accepts non-perishables such as ramen noodles, canned fruits and vegetables, canned pastas, oatmeal, cereal, protein bars, crackers, pasta and rice.
“It’s community partners like American Momentum Bank that make what we do possible,” said Carol LoCicero, program coordinator for the Tampa branch of End 68 Hours of Hunger. “We’re so thankful for their support and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with their team.”
During the 2016 – 2017 school year, End 68 Hours of Hunger provided more than 30,000 meals to children in need. The organization will be honored with the Lightning Community Hero Award and a $50,000 donation on January 11.
