(Sarasota-Manatee, FL) The Women’s Resource Center is presenting a two-part series designed to give women the tools they need to make smart financial decisions. Walsh, CBC, DSS, will explore strategies to grow and protect life savings, generate income during retirement and create a waterproof retirement plan. These interactive sessions are February 3, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and February 10, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at USF Sarasota-Manatee, 8350 N Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Dr. Laura Mattia, CFP, is an author, researcher and financial planning professor at USF’s Muma College of Business. Dr. Mattia’s research on women and money has received accolades nationwide; her financial planning expertise is a unique combination of advanced financial degrees and certifications and more than 28 years of leadership experience. She is the author of the forthcoming book, “Gender on Wall Street: Uncovering Opportunities for Women in Financial Services,” which will be published this spring by Palgrave Macmillan. Dr. Mattia is also a host for the Women’s Money Empowerment Network.
“A vital goal of the Women’s Resource Center is to encourage women to improve their comfort level with money and gain knowledge and confidence to make smart financial decisions,” says Ashley Brown, WRC’s president and CEO. “Whether a woman needs assistance getting out of debt, managing bills, or investing for retirement, we’re here to encourage women to attain a level of comfort and knowledge to make this happen. This series is the perfect way to begin a path to financial freedom.”
According to Dr. Mattia, when women don’t take an active role in their financial planning, it can lead to a lack of power over their lives. “Like many forms of empowerment, financial empowerment must come from within,” she says. “Women must claim their financial power. They must seize it with a passion, resulting in a life built of their own choices and needs, and not what someone else has chosen for them.”
