BRADENTON, Fla. — Venice-based construction company J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp. completed the 1,800-square-foot Crisis Stabilization Unit expansion and 9,500-square-foot renovation of the existing unit for Centerstone of Florida Inc., a not-for-profit organization that offers state-of-the-art mental health and addictions care.
Completed last month, construction on the $3,350,000 project began in October 2016 to further meet the needs of the community. The nonprofit’s staff, construction management team and Tampa architect Shumake Architecture, P.A. worked together to complete the project while maintaining operations at the campus, located at 2020 26th Ave. E. in Bradenton.
Five new bedrooms, a day room and an upgrade to the outdoor play areas were added during the Crisis Stabilization Unit expansion. The unit’s renovations included an expanded medical room and interior upgrades to the nurses’ station, 12 bedrooms, day rooms, seclusion rooms and administrative areas.
Additionally, over 25,000 square feet of facilities on the campus received new roofing and mechanical equipment installations.
“J.E. Charlotte Construction has helped us build a safe, healing place for children and adults who are in crisis,” said Melissa Larkin-Skinner, CEO of Centerstone of Florida. “The addition will ensure we are able to deliver care to more than 400 individuals when they need help most.”
In Florida, Centerstone provides inpatient and outpatient mental health and addictions treatment to more than 15,000 people a year, including 4,200 children and teens. The organization also offers child welfare services focused on family safety and reunification or adoption. The staff — of more than 450 doctors, nurses, counselors, case workers, leaders and support staff — serves one out of every 30 families in the community.
J.E. Charlotte Construction drew from the company’s extensive expertise on health care renovations and expansions to help with this project. The commercial construction company also worked on the expansion for a nonprofit with mental health and substance abuse programs and services in Punta Gorda, Fla.
