(TAMPA, FL) – La Segunda Central Bakery, a family-owned Ybor City institution for more than 100 years and the largest producer of Cuban bread in the world, will open a second location in South Tampa in early summer of 2018.
The new 3,000-square-foot bakery and café at the redeveloped 4001 Kennedy shopping plaza will offer seating for the first time, with indoor and outdoor, a barista coffee bar, to-go window and convenient parking.
The focal point of the new location will be a state-of-the-art Hearth oven and finishing table where guests will be able to watch La Segunda’s expert bakers and pastry chefs prepare many of the bakery’s signature items, which are all made by hand, and crafted by heart. Guests will also be able to pick up loaves of fresh baked Cuban bread with the bakery’s signature Palmetto leaf on the top.
The new location will offer the same menu of breakfast and lunch favorites that are available at its Ybor City bakery, such as La Segunda’s famous fresh-pressed Cuban Sandwich. Guava and Cheese turnovers, Quesitos, Italian Cookies, Flan Scacciata and other Ybor City staples will also be available
“We’re extremely excited for this expansion,” said Copeland More, La Segunda’s fourth generation owner. “Our new bakery and café will bring a slice of Ybor City to South Tampa. As we open this additional location, we remain committed to our roots of baking history every single day.”
“As a family owned and operated business, we have a profound respect for our craft and the legacy from which it has been handed down,” added third generation owner Tony More, Jr. “We’re honored to celebrate the many cultures that have built the Tampa community and through our new South Tampa location, introduce La Segunda to others who may not be familiar with our heritage.”
The expanded location will provide indoor seating options for approximately 80 guests with tables and chairs, a long barista bar, plush, curved banquette and a 12-foot- long Community Table for up to 14 people that may be reserved for meetings. There will also be convenient USB ports throughout the café so that guests on the go can power their electronic devices.
Outside, a covered patio will provide seating for an additional 20 guests and will be pet-friendly.
The announcement of La Segunda’s expansion into south Tampa comes on the heels of the bakery’s 103rd anniversary which will be celebrated on January 15, 2018.
Additionally, La Segunda will embrace its second century of baking history with the introduction of a refreshed logo and an updated website is coming soon. The logo, which features a coffee bean and grain of wheat at the center of palm leaves formed into a sunset, symbolizes the bakery’s deep-rooted heritage and traditions.
La Segunda Café and Bakery will be located at 4001 West Kennedy Boulevard, Suite 4 and will serve breakfast and lunch. An opening date in early summer of 2018 is expected.

About La Segunda Bakery & Café
La Segunda Bakery & Café is a family-focused, fourth-generation owned and operated bakery located in Ybor City, Florida. An institution in the Tampa Bay region since 1915, La Segunda bakes history every single day as the largest producer of Cuban bread in the world. Approximately 18,000 loaves are made by hand and crafted by heart daily, all with the bakery’s signature Palmetto leaf strip on the top. La Segunda delivers Cuban bread to some of Tampa Bay’s most well-known restaurants and to other popular dining establishments around the country.
La Segunda’s fresh made tradition began in 1915 when Juan Moré brought his traditional recipes of breads and pastries to Ybor City, a melting pot of Spanish, Cuban, Italian and German heritage. Today, those recipes – a celebration of the many cultures that have built and continue to influence our community – are prepared almost entirely by hand just as they were back then.
The vision and philosophy of La Segunda remains the same – unite the community in the culture and craft passed down through family traditions. For more information, visit www.lasegundabakery.com.
