USF System President Judy Genshaft will lead the annual parade
TAMPA, Fla. (Jan. 9, 2018) – The 2018 Krewe of Sant’ Yago Knight Parade, presented by MOR-TV, will feature USF System President Judy Genshaft as grand marshal. A Tampa tradition since the 1970s, the annual illuminated parade will take place on Saturday, Feb. 10 in historic Ybor City.
“University leaders like Dr. Genshaft, and USF’s countless faculty and staff members provide unparalleled leadership on campus, and in the Tampa Bay community as a whole,” said Ray Favata, Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago member and 2018 parade chairman. “Many of our Krewe members are USF alumni, and we’re excited to highlight the university’s wide-ranging impact on our community during this year’s parade.”
The Krewe and USF share a longstanding relationship. Each year, the Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago Education Foundation awards scholarships to deserving students at local colleges and universities, including USF.
“The Krewe has helped so many students over the years achieve their dreams of pursuing higher education,” said Pam Barber, President and General Manager of MOR-TV. “MOR-TV is excited to once again partner with the Knights of Sant’ Yago to bring this fun, family-friendly event to Ybor City and thrilled to join them in celebrating USF.”
The 2018 Knight Parade begins at 7 p.m. as illuminated floats, led by Genshaft, roll down Seventh Avenue in historic Ybor City. The floats are accompanied by dozens of marching bands, local dignitaries and thousands of participants as they throw scores of beads to an estimated 100,000 spectators.
Proceeds from the Knight Parade benefit the Krewe’s Education Foundation, which has provided more than $2 million in higher education scholarships since it was established in 1994.
