Lakeland, Florida – The Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College is pleased to present the Pyrography Workshop on Jan. 20, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
This one-day workshop provides students an introduction to the traditional art of pyrography, commonly referred to as wood burning. Cost is $80 for Polk Museum of Art members; $120 for nonmembers.
Students will learn how to achieve a range of tones and shades using a special pen-like tool and bits to burn their designs onto a soft wood surface. Instructor Rachel Stewart also will offer instruction on adding color to the finished product to create the finished artwork.

About the Instructor
Rachel Stewart has a bachelor’s degree in sculpture from Boston University College of Fine Arts, and a master’s degree in creativity studies with a concentration on 12th and 13th century Ethiopian iconography from Union Institute and University.
Stewart lives and works in St. Petersburg, and teaches art at Creative Clay. She has taught stone sculpture, life drawing and mixed media techniques at Ringling School of Art and Design, Blake High School, Polk Museum of Art and Southeastern University.
