Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC) will host the 33rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Lecture Series featuring Hasan Kwame Jeffries, Ph.D., associate professor, Ohio State University and faculty member at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. Jeffries will present “Making MLK Matter Again, Finding Meaning in the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., 50 Years after his Death.”
Three presentations are scheduled over a two-day period, offered at no cost:
Wednesday, January 17

- 2:15–3:15 p.m. — West Campus, Performing Arts Center, New Port Richey, 10230 Ridge Road
Thursday, January 18
- 9:45–10:45 a.m. — North Campus, Room B104/105, Brooksville, 11415 Ponce de Leon Blvd.
Jeffries earned an MA and Ph.D. in American history from Duke University, North Carolina. He is an associate professor at The Ohio State University Department of History and The Kirwan Institute. Jeffries is a historical consultant for museum exhibits, a contributor to peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of African American History, Journal of Negro History, and The Multimedia Journal of Black Studies. Jeffries is the author of two books, including his most recent, Bloody Lowndes: Civil Rights and Black Power in Alabama’s Black Belt, New York: New York University Press, 2009.
“We are excited to have Dr. Jeffries as a guest lecturer to engage our faculty, staff, students, and the community,” said Imani D. Asukile, director of global and multicultural awareness and special assistant to the president.
