Kick off the New Year with 21 Steps for a Rich and Meaningful Life
Lecture & Workshop with Preeminent Jungian Lecturer Dr. James Hollis
Zurich-trained Jungian analyst Dr. James Hollis will discuss “Living More Fully in the Shadow of Mortality,” during his January 19 lecture at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Sarasota. Executive Director of the Jung Society of Washington D.C., Dr. Hollis will examine cultural attitudes and neuroses surrounding mortality, and discuss how fear of dying can impact individual choices, lifestyles, and enjoyment of life. He will analyze how such attitudes can impede growth, relationships, and enjoyment during the second half of life, and provide practical steps to how individuals can recover their inherent enthusiasm for life, regardless of age. Presented by the C. G. Jung Society of Sarasota, the lecture begins at 7 p.m., followed by a Q&A. The Unitarian church is located at 3975 Fruitville Rd., Sarasota. Tickets are $35; $25 for members, and may be purchased via http://www.cgjungsarasota.org/events, or at the door.
Dr. Hollis will also lead a Saturday, Jan. 20 workshop, “Living the Examined Life: Steps to the Recovery of a Personal Journey,” which will draw extensively on concepts featured in his new book. Open to the public, the workshop will focus on the 21 steps Dr. Hollis believes can guide one’s personal journey through the second half of life. Held at the Unitarian church, the workshop will run from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m.; tickets are $80 ($70 for members). Continuing education credits are available through The Friendship Center for Aging Studies.
The lecture marks the world premiere of Dr. Hollis’s latest book: Living an Examined Life: Wisdom for the Second Half of the Journey, to be published in early 2018 by Sounds True Publishing. Advance copies of the book will be offered for the first time for sale and signing immediately following his lecture.
The lecture and workshop by Dr. Hollis are part of the C. G. Jung Society of Sarasota’s 2018 national guest speaker lecture and workshop series. The 2018 lineup features Jungian thought leaders including renowned author Dr. Carol S. Pearson, who will speak on February 23-24. Pearson’s latest book, America on the Couch: What Story Do You, Want Us, to Live, will be published in 2018 and serve as the topic of her talks. The Society also offers special classes, a monthly film salon, and discussion groups on topics including dream analysis, Joseph Campbell’s work in mythology, and mythopoetic literature.
