Polk Museum of Art – January Events & Exhibitions

December 17, 2017 by Post

Bound Ascension: The Sculpture of Gino Miles
Through Jan. 14
Sculptor Gino Miles has worked in monumental and small dimensions since the 1970s. He works primarily in fabricated stainless steel and bronze, and the curvilinear, often weightless appearance of his pieces creates a visual contradiction with heavy metal materials, and challenges the fundamentally static nature of sculpture. Photo available.

Flashlight Night
Through Jan. 21
This exhibition features illustrations from the award-winning children’s book of the same name. It is the work of Lakeland artist and illustrator Fred Koehler. Photo available.

America/American
Through March 4
In this exhibition of selected works from the Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College’s permanent collection, we explore the concept of what it means to call something an American work of art. This is the first exhibition to meld the newest permanent collection works centered around the American figure with works selected from the museum’s existing permanent collection. Photo available.

Renoir: Les Etudes
Through March 11
This exhibition showcases Renoir’s work as a draftsman and his use of the art of printmaking, a medium he discovered in the 1890s. Photo available.

STUDENT EXHIBITIONS
Transcendence
Through Jan. 28
An exhibition highlighting the artwork of Polk County high school art students.
