NOKOMIS, Fla. – Commercial construction company J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp. recently begin the exterior façade renovation of the Palm Square Plaza, a 28,000-square-foot retail and commercial building in Nokomis.
The makeover, which started late last month, will boast a traditional Key West-style concept created by Beebe Design Studio. J.E. Charlotte Construction will erect four new tower features at each building corner and perform the reconstruction of the existing walkway canopy. The new construction and beautifully landscaped property will complement the gateway heading south into Venice from Nokomis.
The project includes demolition, structural steel and metal framing, electrical, concrete and masonry, precast, stucco, finish carpentry, landscaping and civil construction, such as paving, curbing and striping.
The team will install new metal framing and engineered metal trusses at the exterior canopy and towers as well as Hardie plank siding with stucco finishes, new paint and a decorative light fixtures. The parking lot will also be reconfigured to allow for improved functionality, increasing its parking capacity.
“We are excited to update and modernize the look of the Palm Square Plaza,” said Lauren Mosolino-Muia, a co-owner of the plaza. “As a local family, it was important to us to support area home-grown businesses, including licensed contractors like J.E. Charlotte Construction for the build outs.”
On Thursday, Nov. 16, attendees gathered for a formal groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the start of the refurbishment. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2018.
Located at 221 S. Tamiami Trail in Nokomis, the stores in the plaza will remain open during the renovation.
