Emerging Artist Showcase by the Artist Enclave of Historic Kenwood

November 30, 2017 by Post

Emerging artists are taking art into the future by challenging the concept of traditional art forms and techniques. More than 21 artists will come together to display their works on December 9th, from 11 AM to 9 PM, along with gallery hosts Woodfield Fine Art Gallery and Bee Designs at 2253 Central Avenue.

The exhibit will also include work of traditional media of painting, sculpture, stained glass, pottery, digital canvases, photography, fabric art, puppet-making – and so much more. The showcase is sponsored by the Artists Enclave of Historic Kenwood and the Historic Kenwood Neighborhood Association

Among this “brave new world” of artists is Fri Rider who creates geometric data for 3D computer graphics. With a 3D printer, Fri transforms them into sculptural objects you can hold in the palm of your hand. Fri Rider, has expanded the method of 3D printing, primarily employed for manufacturing, to create small artistic models and figures, including a rendering of the inverted triangle St. Petersburg Pier.

Nicole Pantano will exhibit art based on wabi-sabi, a Japanese aesthetic/philosophy that explores the beauty of imperfections. Her “3D skins” that combine paintings and sculpture are a strong representation of this philosophy.

Artist Charla Cribb explores the limits of digital art, some mixed with acrylics as a new twist on mixed media. She loves exploring the fanciful in her art and recently began experimenting with a combination of digital 3D modeling and acrylics. Her work is revolutionary, as it combines the foundation of traditional media with creativity in the new age.

Also showing will be Susan Williams’ breathtaking mosaic sculptures from mannequins, Deb Von Cannon’s lithographs, etchings, drypoint and linocuts and Becky Jamin, a steampunk jewelry artist who uses recycled and upcycled materials, including copper cuffs, necklaces and earrings made from the 70-year-old copper sheet that was in the original roof of her 1941 bungalow. Michael Toth will display graphic design and screen printing that expands upon the medium made famous by Andy Warhol, and Martin Von Cannon, a super hero fiction author will be engaged in book signing at the event, and Douglas Thonen, an Art teacher at Nina Harris Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Center, will display his muralistic paintings. Other artists will display stained glass, fabric art, and traditional forms of art.

This event coordinates with the Second Saturday Art Walk in Grand Central. Even better, the Second Saturday trolley stops right in front of the adjacent galleries for those who prefer not to walk.

The Emerging Artists Showcase is free and open to the public. This could be the perfect place to find an irreplaceable gift of art for someone special during the holidays.
