UNITED TISSUE NETWORK ANNOUNCES RE-ACCREDITATION
Whole-body donation company reveals re-accreditation by the American Association of Tissue Banks
NORMAN, Okla./PHOENIX, Ariz./ST. PETERSBURG, Flor. (November 20, 2017) – United Tissue Network (UTN) is proud to announce their re-accreditation by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB). UTN is a nonprofit, non-transplant
tissue bank with a mission to empower individuals who want to make a difference through whole-body donation by uniting them with professionals dedicated to the advancement of medical technology, training and education. With reaccreditation
from AATB, UTN continues to accomplish its mission in an ethical and caring manner. As a professional organization, AATB adheres to codes, principles and good faith practices which supports UTN’s values.
AATB actively inspects and accredits Non-Transplant Anatomical Donation Organizations (NADOs) using comprehensive standards and policies that resemble current accreditation procedures for transplant tissue banks. This allows for
transparency and the publics’ trust in all donation opportunities. AATB is a voluntary, professional, scientific and educational organization.
In order to obtain AATB accreditation, NADOs need to meet set standards and requirements on a variety of practices. This includes informed consent forms, donor acceptability assessments, preparation, packaging, storage and final
disposition. UTN has been able to provide a comprehensive foundation for the conduct of these activities.
“We are honored to state we have been re-accredited by AATB,” Alyssa Harrison, Executive Director of UTN said. “We believe our industry deserves more transparency and regulation, so we are happy to go above and beyond current requirements. Through AATB, we continue to demonstrate our mission in a responsible way.”
As an end-of-life option, there are many benefits to donating to science for both the donor and their family. Whole-body donation contributes to a wide variety of medical advancements including physician training, advanced disease-based research, pharmaceutical development, and surgical device research and development.
It is through the generosity of donors that UTN is able to provide human tissue for medical training. There is great appreciation for the donors who contribute to the innovation of medical advancements that directly impact people
around the world.
“The kindness of the donors and their families is what makes a difference in everyday lives,” Harrison said. “Through our AATB re-accreditation we continue to ensure the best care for our donors, their families and medical professionals.”
