Lakeland, FL — The Watson Clinic Foundation’s Arts in Medicine program is an empowering outreach initiative that elevates the spirits and quality of life for cancer patients and their caregivers through the practice of the creative arts. Housed in the Watson Clinic Cancer & Research Center, the program is made possible by a dedicated group of volunteers comprised of musicians, crafters, artists, performers and educators; all joining together to represent nearly all forms of creative expression.
The program is currently seeking volunteers, particularly those who can play an instrument or assist in a variety of creative endeavors.
“By taking part in these creative activities, patients and their family members experience an improved sense of self-esteem, focus and engagement with others, which can ultimately have a positive impact on their medical outcomes as well,” says program coordinator Eva Hawkins. “Volunteers can play a crucial role in touching the lives of these patients, and enhancing the health of their community in the process.”
