Share Care Global’s Inaugural Gala Raises $62,550

November 9, 2017 by Post

Sarasota, Florida – November 9, 2017 – More than 275 guests were in attendance at the Share Care Global inaugural fundraising gala – An Evening In India – on Friday, November 3, 2017. The event took place at BMW of Sarasota, where guests watched exciting cultural performances, participated in a live auction hosted by Lulu of 92.1 CTQ, enjoyed dinner courtesy of Tandoor Fine Indian Cuisine, and raised $62,550 to promote initiatives that serve people in need in both India and the United States.

The proceeds from the event will largely fund My Care Bag, a women’s entrepreneurship pilot program providing essential hygiene and toiletry items and inspirational messages. This program works in conjunction with Share Care Global’s shelter in India, offering the women in its surrounding communities with the opportunity to use their skills to make a living by custom-crafting the bags. My Care Bags will be distributed locally to homeless and low-income women in Sarasota via Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center (SPARCC) and HOPE Family Services. Additionally, support will be provided to Children’s Healthy Pantry of Sarasota.

Share Care Global was founded by Poonam Maini, owner of Tandoor Fine Indian Cuisine in Sarasota. A core aspect of Share Care Global is that 10 percent of all gross sales at Tandoor are donated to the organization. “I wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps and make a difference in this world, starting with a movement in India to give back and help people,” said Maini. “We are not here forever, so it’s important to share what we have with those who are less fortunate and leave behind a legacy of good.”

In addition to ongoing funding from Tandoor, a range of local businesses pitched in to provide tangible contributions to make An Evening In India a success. BMW of Sarasota pledged $10,000, provided the venue for the gala, and offered a three-day BMW rental as an auction item. Event sponsor Gold Coast Eagle Distributing donated a half-day cruise aboard its 62’ Viking Yacht “Golden Eagle III” for auction, plus $12,500 to the event, which will go directly towards the purchase of sewing machines for the My Care Bag program.
