Hyde Park Preservation (HPPI) presents the Old Hyde Park Home Tour: Historic Homes of Fielding Avenue, on Sunday, December 3rd from 1 p.m.- 4 p.m. The tour begins at the intersection of Fielding Avenue and Swann Avenue.
Tickets for this walking tour are $20 in advance and are available through HPPI’s website: oldhydeparkfl.org or at the Ticket Booth located at the corner of Fielding Avenue and Swann Avenue. Tickets the day of are $25.
The tour offers a rare opportunity to explore private historic homes in the Hyde Park Preservation neighborhood on Fielding Avenue, a home on Bayshore Boulevard, as well as the Old Hyde Park Art Center on Swann Avenue. Funds are raised to support neighborhood and community projects.
This year’s tour takes visitors along Fielding Avenue between Swann Avenue and Inman Avenue, a stop on Bayshore Boulevard, and crosses over to the Old Hyde Park Art Center on Swann Avenue. There is a 100-year span between the oldest and newest homes featured. Unique to the tour is a newly built home on Bayshore Boulevard that was designed to fit with the historic feel of the neighborhood.
The tour will include a visit to the Old Hyde Park Art Center, built in 1899. It is one of the oldest buildings still in use in Tampa and has served many purposes, including a grammar school, a lunchroom, and a library.
Visitors of the Old Hyde Park Art Center will get a peek at the current exhibit, “La Esperanza” which features artists who will be donating 50% or more of the price of their art to a children’s hospital in San Juan.
“The Old Hyde Park Home tour offers a rare glimpse inside some of the beautiful homes of Hyde Park. We’re especially pleased to include the Old Hyde Park Art Center as part of this year’s tour, which is an anchor in the history of our neighborhood,” said Chandra Henthorne, HPPI’s Fundraising Co-chair.
Kathy Durdin, Board President of Tampa Regional Artists, added, “We are pleased that the Old Hyde Park Art Center is featured in this year’s Old Hyde Park Home Tour. Visitors will not only have the opportunity to see our current exhibit, “La Esperanza,” they will also experience one of Tampa’s most historically significant buildings.”
