ST. PETERSBURG, FL (November 7, 2017) – The city of St. Petersburg will host a Veterans Day celebration on Saturday, November 11, beginning at 8 a.m. at Williams Park, on the corner of Fourth St. and First Ave. N. For the fourth year in a row, Mayor Rick Kriseman will recognize local veterans by presenting the 2017 Honored Veteran Award. This year, two local St. Petersburg heroes will be recognized as our 2017 Honored Veterans:
Carrie W. Nero, Brigadier General, ANC, USAR (Ret) who served our country during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and rose to the rank of Brigadier General during her 30-year career in the United States Army Reserves.
Charles Claybaker, who served as Staff Sergeant in the United States Army 3rd Ranger Battalion during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
A quartet from the Gibbs High School Pinellas County Center for the Arts will perform the National Anthem.
Previous Honored Veterans are: Herbert Polson, in November 2014; Willie Rodgers, in 2015; and Michael Jernigan, in 2016. This is the second year that residents have nominated the veterans being recognized.
