SARASOTA, Fla. (Nov. 3, 2017) USF Sarasota-Manatee has scheduled an Open House for prospective students on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon at the USFSM campus, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
The event welcomes students pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies, including transfer students. High school students and their parents are welcome as well.
Attendees will meet representatives from Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Engagement and Career Services. Prospective students can tour the USFSM campus, visit an application station and learn about the Student Services Showcase.
“One of the things we often suggest is for family members to attend different concurrent sessions and then share what they learned at the end of the event,” said Brandon Avery, assistant director of admissions.
“The November Open House just keeps getting better,” he said. “As our ‘town and gown’ relationships grow stronger, we are finding more students that look to USFSM as one of their top choices, and this Open House will allow them to see who we are, what we offer and how they can fit into our campus community.”

USFSM students help raise funds for CMTA
USF Sarasota-Manatee students continue to impress with their support of charitable organizations.
On Saturday, Oct. 21, USFSM students Othaila Al Saifi, Ekaterina Artemyeva, Olha Chyshkevych and Cristy Owen participated in the 3rd Annual Tampa Bay CMTA Walk-n-Roll FUNdraiser and PICNIC at MacFarlane Park in Tampa.
With help from Instructional Media Technologist Sarah Gentry, Coordinator of Student Organizations & Leadership Kati Hinds and Library Specialist Jessica Szempruch, the students assisted in event set up, registration and clean up. They also played games with CMTA members.
The CMT Walk-N-Roll occurs annually to create awareness, renew hope and generate a community of support, all while raising funds for the CMT Association. At the event, participants walked a half-mile on a paved pathway, played games and enjoyed a picnic lunch.
The chapter raised more than $9,000, which will go toward medical research and Camp Footprint: an overnight camp for kids with CMT.
CMT, Charcot-Marie-Tooth, is a disease of the peripheral nerves that control muscles. Found in both genders and all races and ethnic groups, it is the most commonly inherited peripheral neuropathy, affecting 2.8 million people worldwide. One in 2,500 individuals have the disease.
