Highest Kudos Awarded to Largo Medical Center for Organ Donor Education & Awareness

November 1, 2017 by Post

(LARGO, FL – NOVEMBER 2017) – For the 2nd consecutive year, the Transplant Institute of Florida at Largo Medical Center and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Degina were recognized by Donate Life and Lifelink of Florida with the Platinum Award, the highest award possible, for the hospital’s achievements and participation in the National Workplace Partnership for Life Hospital Campaign.
“This national initiative promotes organ and tissue donation education and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA),” said Carolyn Hostetler, LifeLink of Florida, Hospital Liaison.
Largo Medical Center conducted donation awareness and registry campaigns to raise awareness and educate staff, patients, visitors, and community members about the critical need for organ, eye, and tissue donors. By doing so, LMC increased the number of potential donors on the Donate Life Florida state organ and tissue donor registry.
“We take care of patients and their family members on a daily basis; but what we also do, that is also very important, is work diligently to continue to raise awareness about treatments for health conditions that affect our loved ones every day,” said Anthony Degina, CEO, Largo Medical Center. “And part of the education we provide includes what people need to know about organ donation.”
Hospitals provide education to thousands and help the Donate Life Florida organ and tissue donor registry with millions of registrants every year. Since the inception of this national hospital campaign in 2001 more than 400,000 people have registered their donation decision on state organ and tissue donor registries.
Donate Life continues to educate the public on the opportunity to join Florida’s organ, tissue and eye donor registry by signing up on line. Check out DonateLife.org/register.
