Et Cultura’s 2017 film lineup includes documentary film, Dare to be Different, which follows the story of Long Island, New York radio station WLIR 92.7. They changed their music format in 1982 to include a unique modern rock mix of punk and new wave, and were the first radio station in the US to play now classic bands such as U2, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Talking Heads, and even Prince and Madonna.
This documentary is a fascinating glimpse into a sub-culturla zeitgeist, and features interviews with Joan Jett, Billy Idol, Debbie Harry, Nick Rhodes, and other artists and DJs who helped create the revolution.
Featuring a post-screening discussion with director Ellen Goldfarb and former WLIR DJ Scott “DJ Bird” Peacock.
