November Exhibitions & Events at Polk Museum of Art

October 17, 2017 by Post

Bill Rutherfoord: Allegory of No Region
Through Dec. 10
The culmination of eight years of concentrated labor producing a massive painting project by one of Southwestern Virginia’s most respected artists, this exhibition features 11 large-scale, colorful and densely populated paintings that invite the viewer into a complex interweaving of narrative, symbol and form.

STATUS: Fluid Dynamic
Through Dec. 10
This exhibition showcases the work of Jason Myers, a prolific multi-disciplinary American artist based in Logansport, Indiana. His complex, layered work uses steel, resin and computer-generated prints. Photo available.

Faces in the Crowd: Perspectives on American Figuration from the New Permanent Collection
Through Dec. 17
The second in a series of exhibitions showcasing the museum’s latest acquisitions of figurative American art. Approaching the concept of the human figure and its representation in art broadly, this exhibition continues to highlight the new principal collecting focus of the Permanent Collection, one that addresses American figurative art as a subject unto its own in painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. Photo available.

Flashlight Night
Through Jan. 21
This exhibition features illustrations from the award-winning children’s book of the same name. It is the work of Lakeland artist and illustrator Fred Koehler. Photo available.

Bound Ascension
Through Jan. 14
Sculptor Gino Miles has worked in monumental and small dimensions since the 1970s. He works primarily in fabricated stainless steel and bronze, and the curvilinear, often weightless appearance of his pieces creates a visual contradiction with heavy metal materials, and challenges the fundamentally static nature of sculpture. Photo available.

STUDENT EXHIBITIONS
Learning to be Me
Through Nov. 12
An exhibition highlighting the artwork of Polk County art students in kindergarten through second grade.

Art Out Loud
Nov. 18 – Dec. 17
