The Pasco Tax Collector’s Office Collects Over $10,000 for Feeding Pasco’s Elderly

October 12, 2017 by Post

During the month of September Feeding Pasco’s Elderly was the featured charitable organization at the Pasco County Tax Collector’s Office. Feeding Pasco’s Elderly is a volunteer-driven, non-profit that is dedicated to serving the “hidden hungry” of Pasco County. The “hidden hungry” are primarily senior citizens who are homebound and who do not have family or other connections in the community to help provide for their basic needs.

“It was a blessing to deliver over $10,000 to the board members of Feeding Pasco’s Elderly at their meeting this week,” states Tax Collector Mike Fasano. “Our staff worked hard to collect donations from some very generous members of Pasco’s community. The funds that were raised during the month of September will stay in our community. They will be used to support, expand services to the “hidden hungry” and help raise awareness of this incredibly important issue that touches thousands of lives.”

Feeding Pasco’s Elderly is the fundraising arm of the county’s Elderly Nutrition Program, which includes the highly popular Meals-on-Wheels food delivery service. It is estimated that 28% of the approximately 500,000 people who call Pasco County home are senior citizens. It is further estimated that one in six seniors, or 16%, do not know where their next meal is going to come from.
“Our passionate board members and I are extremely excited and encouraged by the support of our generous community partners towards our strategy to eliminate food insecurity amongst Pasco County’s senior citizens,” states Richard Hayes, Founding Board Member and Treasurer. “The volunteer staff of Feeding Pasco’s Elderly relies upon the financial contributions from individual and corporate donors to solve this hidden problem of hunger of our older neighbors.”

The Pasco County Tax Collector’s Office supports local charitable organizations that assist residents of Pasco County.
