SARASOTA COUNTY – A family friendly, fun and free dedication ceremony for the Archaic Period interpretive signage at Phillippi Estate Park is set for 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14.
The interpretive signage offers the opportunity to learn about indigenous Native American cultures through archaeology dating back approximately 6,000 years, including early nomadic tribes.
The event also features exhibits and displays by New College Public Archaeology Lab, Time Sifters Archaeology Society and Florida Public Archaeology Network. A display of artifacts excavated on Phillippi Estate Park from the Manasota Culture, dating back 2,500 years, will be available for review. Guest speakers include Dr. Uzi Baram, director of New College Public Archaeology Lab, and Sarasota County Archaeologist Steve Koski.
Light refreshments will be available at the Edson Keith Mansion after the dedication ceremony. Phillippi Estate Park is located at 5500 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
