Tampa, Fla. – The Patel Conservatory will present Godspell, the timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, on October 26-29 in the Straz Center for the Performing Art’s TECO Theater.
Performed by students in grades seven through 12, the cast of Godspell conveys parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and hefty doses of comic timing.
An eclectic blend of catchy and moving songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. While many of the show’s songs are memorable, “Day by Day” became an international hit, recorded by several artists.
Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life in Godspell. Boasting a score with chart topping songs, a book by a visionary playwright (John-Michael Tebelak) and a feature film, Godspell is a sensation that continues to touch audiences.
Godspell will be presented in the TECO Theater Oct. 26-29. Performances are Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. (sensory friendly) and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $20, and may be purchased by calling 813.229.STAR (7827) or 800.955.1045 outside Tampa Bay, in person at the Straz Center Ticket Office or online at www.strazcenter.org.
